The world has reacted with an outpouring of concern and giving. Our very own Ryan Jensen took it upon herself to organize a cut-a-thon to raise money for the American Red Cross. Paul Mitchell the School Jacksonville graciously allowed stylist from Oscar and Lula's, Rio Salon,Tranquility and future professionals from PMTS to work their hair cutting magic for a great cause. There were a lot of laughs, smiling faces and great heads of hair at Paul Mitchell the School that day! It is always a fantastic time with hairdressers come together and decide make a difference. www.redcross.org |
![]() Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless December 21st, 2009 The holidays can be a highly stressful and busy time, especially in a hair salon. Everyone wants to look their best for parties and family gatherings so stylists can be quickly overwhelmed with last minute appointments and long days on the floor. During all the hustle and bustle of the holidays it is easy to forget that there are some in our area that are in need. So,on December 21st in the spirit of good will and community the ladies of Oscar and Lula's visited the Sulzbacher Center for the homeless on East Adams Street to give hair cuts to the women, children and men that call the center their temporary home. Our team of stylists gave over 55 hair cuts over the course of about 3 hours. We were welcomed with smiles, handshakes and stories of what it is like to be without a home and in need of a helping hand. There is an amazing team of people at the Sulzbacher Center that work very hard to get people back on there feet and into the workforce. We hope that having a new hair cut would give some the confidence to seek out a new job or make them feel a little bit better at school. We plan on making our visits to the center a regular occurrence and greatly encourage everyone in our community to volunteer there if they can. www.sulzbachercenter.org |
![]() Invisible Children In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims. After returning to the States, they created the documentary "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda.s night commuters and child soldiers. The film was originally shown to friends and family, but has now been seen by millions of people. The overwhelming response has been, "How can I help?" To answer this question, the non-profit Invisible Children, Inc. was created, giving compassionate individuals an effective way to respond to the situation. www.invisiblechildren.com |
